ACTC to host virtual women’s history presentations

February 22, 2022

ASHLAND, Ky. – In celebration of Women’s History Month, Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) is excited to announce two virtual events during the month of March.

Both events will take place at noon on Microsoft Teams.

On Wednesday, March 2, ACTC Professor Laura Tussey will speak on Victorian Gender Dynamics. You can view Professor Tussey’s presentation here

Tussey is a Professor of English and Appalachian Studies Certificate Director at ACTC where she has been a faculty member since August 2006. She grew up in Catlettsburg, Kentucky and, after an out-migration to St Paul, Minnesota, moved back to Kentucky to attend Marshall University as a Drinko Scholar, where she earned her Master of Arts in English with Academic Distinction.

On Wednesday, March 23, Ann Perkins, Executive Director of Safe Harbor of Northeastern KY, Inc. will be presenting about women in Kentucky.

Perkins has served as Executive Director of Safe Harbor since 1998. There, she is responsible for shelter and program management and the provision of quality services for victims of domestic violence in the FIVCO ADD district.

She is also the owner of Second Hand Rose consignment shops, which she and her husband purchased initially in 2000. In 2003, they expanded the business to include a furniture store and in 2011, the two opened a third location for children’s clothing. In 2017, the company was honored as the Northeast Kentucky Small Business of the Year.
