ACTC to host virtual Young Men’s Conference

February 15, 2022

ASHLAND, Ky. – Ashland Community and Technical College’s Young Men’s Conference will be held virtually Friday, March 11 beginning at 9 A.M.

The event is open to all boys in grades 9-12.

“While we would have preferred to have our conference in-person, this platform allows us to open the conference to a much larger audience," said Chrisha Spears, conference coordinator.

Those who register for the event will be put in a drawing to win an Oculus Quest 2, Bluetooth earbuds, or Bluetooth speakers. The first 350 boys registered will receive t-shirts and swag bags.

This year’s keynote speaker will be K.D. Wilson. Wilson is a nationally recognized educator, speaker, author and advocate in the areas of leadership development, student success empowerment, inclusion/equity education, educator compassion fatigue/self-care awareness, social justice/American policing and program/workplace culture transformation across the nation.

His heart is to not only cover challenges in the classroom, but to dig into the hearts of those he encounters in order to see them operating at their full potential. Wilson is best known for his “7 Pillars of Success” presentation that has impacted students and educators so much that studies show a 93% increase in productivity, focus and task completion from those implementing the formula.

When he isn’t inspiring students, he can be found empowering educators by helping them overcome burnout, build better student/teacher relationships, and re-igniting their passions.

Other speakers from across the region will host breakout sessions during the event as well. Additional sessions will be available after the conference on www.youngmensconference.online. This will allow participants, counselors, and teachers to view and discuss at a later date.

“This conference allows young men to hear from local and national speakers that have come from various backgrounds that hopefully the boys will connect with,” Spears said.

Event sponsors include Ashland Community and Technical College, The Legal Wizards, Area Advertising, 4imprint, Rotary Club of Ashland, Members Choice Credit Union, King’s Daughters Medical Center, Community Trust Bank, City National Bank, IBEW Local 317 and Vesuvius USA.  Anyone wishing to sponsor can contact chrisha.spears@kctcs.edu.
