College Readiness
The TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) is a computerized placement test used by all Kentucky Community & Technical Colleges (KCTCS) to evaluate students in reading, writing, and ELA skills for placement decisions. Many individuals planning to enroll at one of the KCTCS institutions find it beneficial to review/up-grade their basic academic skills with Adult Education before taking the TABE exam.
TABE scores determine whether one begins college by taking credit-bearing classes. Whenever TABE scores are lower than needed for your program of study at the college, it is advisable to study with Adult Education (Room 167) and then re-take the TABE test with the goal of making a higher score(s). TABE prep classes and TABE study books are available through the Adult Learning Center.
