GED Information
Applicants must pass the official GED Ready (practice tests) in order to be able to apply to take the Official GED test. The Adult Education Program provides these tests. A minimum passing score of 145 is needed on each test. There are four sub-tests to take to earn the GED (Reasoning through Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics). The applicant may now pass the GED Ready (practice test) in one subject area and take the Official GED test before moving on to the next subject area. Classes are available free of charge to prepare for both the GED Ready and the GED test.
GED Ready
GED Ready™ test has the same four modules GED (Reasoning through Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics) as the GED® test but is one-half the length of the operational GED® test. Once a test-taker passes a module of the Ready™ test, the test-taker can proceed to scheduling that same module of the GED® test. GED Testing Service® has set the minimum passing score for a module of the GED Ready™ test at 145, which is the same score required to pass a module of the GED® test. GED Testing Service® considers GED Ready™ test scores valid, which in this case means predictive of performance on the GED® test, for 60 days.
Testing Accommodations
Individuals with documented disabilities should indicate the need for accommodations on the online application at GED.com and work directly with the accommodations team at GED Testing Service® to apply for testing accommodations. You may also request help from the Director of Boyd County Adult Education Skills U in applying for accommodations.
Testing accommodations are available for the GED® test for those with documented disabilities. Individuals with documented disabilities should specify the need for accommodations under the personal information in their profile at their MyGED® account at GED.com. Test-takers should work directly with the accommodations team at GED Testing Service® to apply for testing accommodations. With permission from the test-taker, the educator can be designated as an advocate and assist the test-taker with the accommodations request process.
The GED Ready™ test is available with extended time. Any test-taker who indicates that they require a modification on the GED® test, even if it has not yet been approved, will be presented with an option to select the extended time GED® test. To schedule the extended time GED Ready™ test, test-takers should call Customer Support at 800-466-0450.
Age Alert
To take the GED® test in Kentucky, without special permissions, the test-taker must have reached his/her 19th birthday (13 KAR 3:050 GED® eligibility requirements). The Kentucky GED® eligibility regulation requires all those under the age of 19 to be the legal age of withdrawal as set by the school district in which s/he currently resides and be officially withdrawn from public or private school for 90 days, as certified by the local school district, or meet other requirements in order to be eligible to schedule the test. Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, all Kentucky school districts will require compulsory school attendance until age 18.
Students under the age of 19 shall submit documentation of withdrawal or eligibility as certified by the local school district to test. Submit documentation of withdrawal or eligibility to the Director of the Boyd County Adult Education Skills U to receive help with an age alert.
