ACTC receives CPE Healthcare Workforce Investment grant

Published on Oct 7, 2025

Ashland Community & Technical College (ACTC) prides itself on producing highly-skilled healthcare professionals that make an immediate impact in the workforce upon graduation.

Through the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) has awarded more than $100,000 to Ashland Community and Technical College. These funds will be matched by UK King’s Daughters, bringing the total to:

  • $144,000 for the Associate Degree Nursing program
  • $72,000 for the Associate of Applied Science in Radiography program

The scholarships will provide nursing and radiography students with training and job placement support, helping to address critical healthcare shortages across the Commonwealth.

“We are excited to be able to provide more financial support for our students to attend college without incurring tuition debt,” said Dr. Sara Brown, Associate Dean of Health Sciences at ACTC. “When UKKD met with ACTC to discuss the possibility of applying for the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund, we were happy to collaborate on the effort. Working together to help our students and provide our local partners with students who meet their workforce needs is a primary goal at ACTC.”

"Ashland Community and Technical College is a great partner in educating future generations of healthcare professionals," Sara Marks, UK King's Daughters president/CEO, said. "It's exciting to see this investment in the future of eastern Kentucky."

Eligible radiography and nursing students can apply for the scholarship. A committee made up of two ACTC Health Sciences employees and two UKKD employees will review the applications and select recipients. Students who are chosen to receive the funding must agree to contingent employment with UKKD to receive the award. For every year they get the scholarship, they will be contracted to work a year, up to a maximum of two years.
