Inclement Weather

Policy

The college policy is to remain open and conduct classes according to the regular schedule, except in extreme weather conditions or other disruptions to campus operations. The college may be delayed, closed, or operated virtually due to extreme weather or disruption. The college will make every effort to notify students, employees, and the public as quickly as possible about the college's operational status.

In the event of extreme weather, the decision to delay, close, or operate virtually will be the same for both campus locations (College Drive and Technology Drive). Individual campuses may be closed due to specific situations at that location.

Procedure

Notification of operational status will be communicated using the following methods: SNAP Alert message, website, and selected radio and television stations, and the college's Facebook social media account.

ACTC off-site locations

Dual credit high school sites

The decision to close ACTC's three campus locations does not affect classes offered at the college’s dual credit sites. If a high school closes due to inclement weather, then ACTC classes offered at that site are canceled.

Little Sandy Correctional Complex

The decision to close ACTC's two campus locations does not affect classes offered at the Little Sandy Correctional Complex. If the Little Sandy Correctional Complex closes due to inclement weather or other circumstances, then ACTC classes at the site are also canceled.

Definitions

Closed:  All classes are cancelled and offices closed.

Delay: The college will open at 10:00 a.m. Classes starting at 10:00 a.m. or later will meet as regularly scheduled. For classes with a start time before 10:00 a.m., individual instructors will notify students of attendance expectations on the days the college implements a delayed opening.

Virtual Learning and Workday: Classes will be held virtually. Individual instructors will notify students of class attendance expectations during a virtual learning day. Students should also monitor their KCTCS email for instructions and contact their instructor for guidance. Employees should contact their supervisors for remote work assignments.

ACTC recognizes that road conditions can vary significantly within our service area. Students and employees are to exercise personal judgment about whether travel is safe. Students who decide not to travel for class will notify their instructors by means identified in the class syllabus. Employees who decide not to travel will notify their supervisor and follow KCTCS absence policies and procedures. Faculty who decide not to travel for classes will notify their students.
