Phlebotomy

Phlebotomists collect blood from patients/donors in hospitals, blood banks or clinics for analysis or other purposes. This six-credit course prepares students to be integral members of the health-care team, with attention to standard precautions, record keeping, vital signs and therapeutic communication skills.

Payment Information

The fees for the Phlebotomy class include the following:

  • Tuition/Liability Insurance (must be paid in full prior to the first day of class):

    Please do not attempt to pay for your class until you have received a confirmation stating your enrollment has been processed and a charge has been placed on your account.

    Tuition: $936.00 (Tuition is based on KCTCS tuition rates and are subject to change)
    Mandatory Student fee: 48.00
    Liability Insurance: $11.00*
    TOTAL: $995.00
  • Background Check Fee:

    There is a Background and Drug test REQUIRED for this course.
    Information will be given the first day of class.
    $80 fee is the responsibility of the student and is paid directly to the providing company.
  • State Exam Fee

    Once you have successfully completed this course, you are required to pay $150 to sit for the state exam. This fee is paid directly to the "International Academy of Phlebotomy Science" in the form of a money order only. Your instructor will provide more information about this fee.

Additional Class Requirements:

Below, you will find a list of items that must be taken care of as soon as possible preferably prior to class. You can either go to your own physician or the nearest health department to get the PPD (Tuberculosis) which is required for all nursing programs:

REQUIRED

  • PPD (Two-Step TB skin test) or proof if you have had one in the last 12 months, or chest x-ray if you cannot be tested. This will require you going back to the physician within 48-72 hours so they can check the site for reaction (if you get the PPD).
  • MMR record
  • Scrubs are required for class (Caribbean blue)
  • Tennis shoes/Nursing shoes

RECOMMENDED NOT REQUIRED

  • Hepatitis shot

Holds:

If you have been a student at any of the KCTCS campuses (ACTC, Big Sandy CTC, Maysville CTC, etc.) in the past and have an outstanding balance from prior semesters, there may be a financial hold on your account. If you have a financial hold on your account, you will be denied enrollment into this or any other class until that balance has been paid in full. If you have any questions or you are not sure and want to confirm that your account is in good standing, this can be done during your appointment.
