Working LPNs can continue education at ACTC

     If you are a current licensed practical nurse (LPN) and want to make the transition to registered nurse (RN), Ashland Community and Technical College is offering a restructured track that is ideal for those already working full- or part-time jobs.
     ACTC’s LPN to associate degree nursing track of the nursing program is a hybrid 3-semester program with both in-person and online course work. In-person lectures will be Monday evenings with once a month weekend labs and clinicals. The rest of the course work will be online.
     “This program is designed to meet the needs of licensed practical nurses who wish to continue working full- or part-time while continuing their education,” said Terri Ratliff, associate professor for the LPN to ADN track of the nursing program. “The program will teach LPNs to transition to the role of the RN and expand on what they learned in the practical nursing program.”
     At the end of the program, students will graduate with an associate degree in nursing and be eligible to sit for the national licensing exam, NCLEX-RN.
     “Students will get the opportunity to learn in ACTC’s new, high-fidelity, nursing simulation labs, which include two true-to-life patient rooms and a debriefing room equipped with advanced technology that allows students to view their own performance in simulated patient experiences with faculty and peers,” Ratliff said.
     Deadline to register for the LPN to ADN track is Oct. 1.
     Acceptance into the program based on a selective admissions process. Students must apply for admission to ACTC if not already currently enrolled, as well as complete an application to the associate degree nursing program. High school (or GED) and all post-secondary transcripts must be sent directly to the admissions office to be considered for the program.
