    Students compete in Skills USA events

         Ashland Community and Technical College hosted high school students from local career and technical centers for the annual SkillsUSA Kentucky competitions on March 1 at the Technology Drive Campus.
         Students represented Boyd County High School Career and Technical Education Center, Paul G. Blazer High School, Carter County High School Career and Technical Center, Greenup County High School Area Technical Center and Russell High School Area Technical Center, which includes students from Russell, Raceland-Worthington and Fairview High Schools.
    Skills USA Kentucky is a chapter of the national organization that serves industrial, trade and technical students in area technology centers, public high school and career and technical centers.  Annual competitions focus on leadership and technical skills.
         The regional competitions for the SkillsUSA Northeast Region-District 14 included contests at ACTC’s Technology Drive. Carpentry skills contests were conducted at the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC). They provided the facility, tools and lumber as well as fed the students. The IBEW Local 575 out of Portsmouth provided gifts for the winners of the Electrical Construction Wiring competition. State Electric Supply also provided gifts for winners.
         Contest winners are eligible to participate in state competitions later this month.
