    Fifth annual New Play Fest April 20-21

         ACTC will raise the curtain for the fifth annual New Play Festival and Student Art Showcase.
    Eight new plays by ACTC students will be performed at 7 p.m. April 20 and 21 in the J.B. Sowards Theater at the College Drive Campus.
    The eight scenes, monologues and short plays were written by ACTC students in a playwriting class taught by Assistant English Professor Johnathan Joy. Some playwrights will also direct their own works.
         Over the years, the play festival has worked with more than a hundred students, faculty, staff and community members to host premieres of 50 new plays, all written by students. A hit locally, some of these works have gone on to further production at the Kentucky State Fair and the Ten-tucky fest, both in Louisville, and in New York City. Another will be published in the upcoming Kentucky Theatre Yearbook.
         This year’s selected works are: “Why I Am a Vet?” by Angela Chevalier; “The Peculiar Case of Julia Remington” by Kasey Davidson; “Zeli’s Beeswax” by Kimberly Clark, a scene from “Decisions, Decisions” by Caitlyn Goodall, a monologue by Jessica Garland, “Ghost for Hire” by Jessica Garland, selection from “Long Live the King” by Simon Amsel, and “Danger on the Dance Floor” by Mikaela McDonald.
         This year’s cast includes Gregory Picklesimer of Greenup, Kate Morris of Huntington, Brian Cook of Ashland, Katelyn Fowler of Flatwoods, Garret Campbell of Catlettsburg, Grace Sluss of Ashland, Jordan Queen of Ashland, Virginia Conn of Catlettsburg, Nora Ankron of Huntington, Franklin Harris of Ashland, Reagan Williams of Ashland, Valerie Biggs of Ashland, Kevin Campbell of Flatwoods, Heather Hughes of Ashland and Andrew Potter of Ashland.
         General admission tickets for the New Play Festival are $5 and available at the door.
         Also, artwork by ACTC students in spring classes taught by Professor Wendy Fosterwelsh will be exhibited during the three days of the festival.
