Woodlands Foundation Supports ACTC BuildSmart
The Woodlands Charitable Foundation, Inc. in Ashland has donated $100,000 to the Ashland Community and Technical College BuildSmart Campaign.
We are pleased to support the college that has served so many students in the past and will continue to serve many students in the future, said Daniel Huffman, Chairman of the Foundation Board.
The Woodlands Foundation is a private foundation that encourages economic development and supports community projects or organizations that lead to job creation or retention in the Ashland-area community.
The college is an asset to the community and enhances the quality of life for our residents. Huffman said. ACTC supports our jobs-oriented mission to train and make available a workforce that is attractive to businesses already in the community and to those that might want to come.
The goal of the BuildSmart Fundraising Campaign is to renovate the main classroom building on the College Drive Campus. The primary renovation project is replacement of the obsolete heating and air conditioning system
Upgrading of the original 1970s building was identified as ACTCs top capital project for BuildSmart funding through a public-private partnership approved by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2014. Each dollar of locally raised funds is matched by three dollars in bond funds. The fund-raising campaign is nearing completion, and renovations are scheduled to start in May.
Supporting BuildSmart is one of the ways that we work together to make a difference in attracting and retaining businesses in Boyd and Greenup counties, Huffman said.
The Woodlands Foundation also donated funds for the Guy amp; Lisa Spriggs Child Development Center that opened near the College Drive Campus in 2012. The Center primarily serves the children of nontraditional students.
