Tri-State Diversity Conference is September 11
The 2nd Annual Tri-State Conference on Diversity and Inclusion will take place Friday, Sept. 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Marshall University in Huntington.
Ashland Community and Technical College and other higher education institutions, programs and businesses are cosponsoring the conference to promote a community dialogue about equity, opportunity and diversity.
Community leaders, educators, college and high school students, counselors and area residents are invited to the conference on Beyond Diversity. Participants will increase their understanding about how inclusion practices can influence and enhance their workplace and community.
Keynote speaker Tim Wise, an antiracist essayist and educator, is this year's special guest speaker. Wise has spent the past 20 years speaking to audiences in all 50 states. He has brought his message on to more than 1,000 college and high school campuses, hundreds of professional and academic conferences, and to numerous community groups across the nation.
Wise is the author of six books, including his highly-acclaimed memoir, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son. He has contributed articles and essays to over 25 books and magazines. A regular on CNN and MSNBC, he has trained many corporate, government, law enforcement and medical industry professionals on methods for dismantling racism in their institutions.
The conference includes concurrent sessions on diversity and inclusion topics: Sacred and Sexy Intersectionality:Engaging Religion, Gender, and Sexuality On and Off Campus; The Story of Ohios Strategic Prevention Framework; Moving Beyond the One Size Fits All Approach to Cultural Competence; How to Avoid a Cultural Diversity Calamity in the Work Place; From First Generation College Student to Dean of Students; What Western Universities Can Learn from the Navajo Nation; and Creating a Dream Team - The Impact of Diversity amp; Inclusion in Student Organizations.

The conference fee is $40 per person or $15 for secondary and post-secondary students. The fee includes continental breakfast, luncheon, workshops, panel discussion and a Certificate of Cultural Competency. Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and university credits are available for additional fees.
