State Registered Nurse Aid Course

A four-week State Registered Nurse Aid (SRNA) course at ACTC can help people start on a career in health care. The eighty-hour course covers basic skills needed in a variety of health care settings and prepares students for the state competency exam for nurse aides.

In Kentucky, 90% of the SRNAs in Kentucky earn an average of $14.19 per hour with an average yearly wage of $29,500, according to the Workforce Kentucky Occupational Explorer. A 23% job growth rate is projected from 2006 to 2016.

The SRNA can be a stepping stone to other health care positions, such as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse or a health care administrator. For example, active status on the State Nurse Aid Registry or completion of a nursing assistant course is one of the admissions requirements for ACTCs associate degree and practical nursing programs.

October courses are held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Oct. 10 to Nov. 3, or Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 11 to Nov. 4. Clinicals will be held on Saturday and Sunday following the last week of class. Classes will also be offered in November.

The courses are held at ACTCs Technology Drive Campus located off the Industrial Parkway (KY 67).

Those who complete the class earn three college credits. The cost is $405, plus $20 for liability insurance and $72.95 for the book. For more information or an application, contact Robin Harris, CWED Workforce Assessment Coordinator, 606-326-2252 or email: robin.harris@kctcs.edu.
