Skills USA Highlights Technical Skills

More than 140 students participated in the annual SkillsUSA Kentucky competitions hosted by Ashland Community and Technical College on March 18.

Skills USA is a national organization that serves industrial, trade and technical students in technology centers, public high schools and career and technical centers. Annual competitions focus on leadership and technical skills.

Over 50 ACTC faculty and staff members were involved in hosting the Northeastern Region-District 14 competitions. Winners of the regional competitions are eligible to advance to the state competition.

ACTC students participated in the postsecondary Automotive Technology Competition. The winners were First Place - Andrew J. Strehle from Worthington, Second Place - Benjamin H. Powers from Sandy Hook, Third Place - Randall W. Hall from Russell.

Secondary contest students represented Boyd County High School Career and Technical Education Center (Boyd), Carter County High School Career and Technical Center (Carter), Elliott County High School (Elliott); Greenup County High School Area Technical Center (Greenup), and Russell High School Area Technical Center (Russell) which includes Russell, Raceland-Worthington and Fairview High School students.
