Short-Term Classes on Making/Handling Money

Money how to manage, save, make, find and spend is the subject for several spring classes at Ashland Community and Technical College.

Financial Peace University

Start the New Year with a new way to handle your finances. Start your journey to financial freedom today with Dave Ramseys Financial Peace University, a 13-week program that helps people reduce their debt and get control of their money.

Financial Peace University (FPU), was created by Dave Ramsey, a personal money management expert and best-selling author of The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace and More Than Enough.

More than a half-million families have attended FPU courses and learned new behaviors to manage money. According to the FPU organization, the average family pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 in the first three months after completing the course.

In each two-hour session, participants work together to learn basic money-management skills and change the way they handle their finances and plan for the future. The sessions will meet Thursdays, Jan. 26 to April 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the College Drive Campus.

Facilitator Robert R. Cassell is Director of Waiver Services at Starlight Behavioral Health in Huntington. A graduate of ACTC and Marshall University, he is experienced in helping people manage their spending habits.

Couponing Bootcamp

If you want to save some serious money, this hands-on couponing class can put money back into your wallet. Coupons are available online and in print for nearly every household item and using them on a regular basis can help with your household expenses.

Instructor Melinda Hester has been couponing for two years and writes a couponing article for The Greater Ashland Beacon. She deals with couponing as a tool to help make it through tough economic times.

Participants will start with the basics and work their way up to harder transactions. Managing your coupons and keeping track of changes are also covered.

The class will meet Thursdays, February 2 to March 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the College Drive Campus. The fee is $25, and participants should bring a calculator, pen, paper and a marker. Contact Lifelong Learning for more information.

Using eBay to Buy and Sell

This training can lead to success on eBay, as participants learn to turn their items into income.

Topics include how to create an account, understand the basics of eBays format, open a seller account, do research and create listings, improve listings with better descriptions and photography, set pricing, open and use a PayPal account, monitor listings, ship items and complete transactions.

The class will be held at the Roberts Drive Campus Thursday, Jan. 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a one hour noon break. The class is also offered Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13 and 14, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Instructor Jessica Lucas is ACTCs Workforce Solutions Specialist.

Tips for Marketing Your Business

This class on Marketing and Publicizing Your Business or Organization will include a discussion of when and how to use free, nearly free and paid marketing and advertising. Social media, paid advertising, promotions and publicity are the primary topics of this interactive session filled with tips, tricks and ideas to stretch your budget and reach the Facebook/Twitter population.

Instructor John McGlone is ACTC Dean of Marketing and Community Relations. The class will be held at the Technology Drive Campus on Saturday, March 31, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. The fee is $45. For more information, contact Workforce Solutions.
