The public is invited to the 6th annual ACTC/FIVCO Area Science and Engineering Fair
on Feb. 2 at the Technology Drive Campus of Ashland Community and Technical College.
The fair is offered for students in fourth to twelfth grades in public, parochial
or home-based schools in Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup and Lawrence Counties in Kentucky.
Entries will be judged in the morning, and there will be an open house for the community
beginning at 11:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be
awarded in six categories: Biomedical and Behavioral Health Sciences; Animal, Plant
and Environmental Sciences; Engineering and Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; Chemistry;
and, new this year, Robotics and Computer Sciences.
ACTC is coordinating this fair to promote and recognize student achievements in science
and engineering, with support through a grant from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky,
Inc. Fair winners will be eligible for participation in a state regional science fair.
“We continue our mission not only to inspire young people to become science and technology
leaders, but to provide a platform that will foster their talents and build their
self-confidence, communication skills and leadership abilities,” said Mia Brown, fair
director.
The Technology Drive Campus is located just off KY 67 (Industrial Parkway), accessible
from I-64 exit 179 or from US 23 one mile south of Greenup.
