Ashland Community and Technical College offers short term State Registered Nurse Aid (SRNA) classes that can help people move into entry level jobs in health care.

The Monday and Wednesday afternoon class meets from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. August 17 to October 7. The evening class meets Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, August 17 to October 6, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Enrollment in each class is limited on a first-come basis. Tuition for the three-credit hour class is $465, based on the ACTC tuition rates. For questions about Financial Aid, call 855.246.2282.

Healthcare, the nations largest industry, is expected to produce more new jobs by 2020 than any other industry, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In Kentucky, nursing aide jobs are expected to grow by 15% in the next decade, with an average annual salary of over $23,800, according to the Kentucky Occupational Outlook to 2022.

The SRNA prepares students to be Certified Nursing Assistants who provide basic direct patient care. Jobs are available in hospitals, home health care, medical offices, assisted living facilities, hospice, long-term care facilities and mental health facilities.

ACTCs eighty-hour SNRA course trains students in basic skills necessary to assist nurses in a variety of health care settings and to be efficient health care team members. Students who complete the class and pass a competency exam are listed on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry.

As a convenience to students, ACTC also administers the State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) Certification Exam.

In addition to providing training for immediate employment, the course meets a new requirement for entry into ACTCs Practical Nursing Program. Students must complete SRNA (NAA100) or be listed on the Kentucky SRNA Registry before applying for the program. The deadline for applying for the 2016 Practical Nursing class is next March 31, so students planning to apply for the program may want to complete the SRNA this fall.
