New Play Festival Is April 24-26
Ashland Community and Technical College Theatre will present a New Play Festival Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m.
The Festival is a celebration of the Humanities, with a focus on literature, theatre and art. The 13 scenes, monologues, short plays and one-act productions were written by ACTC students in a playwriting class taught by ACTC English/Writing Instructor Jonathan Joy last fall.
The cast and crew features more than 25 students and performers from throughout the Tri-State.
ACTC student cast members include Joey D. Bryant from Flatwoods, John Chapman from Catlettsburg, and Tiffany S. Jobe, Della J. Preston and Zach Walter from Ashland. ACTC Dean of Student Affairs Steve Woodburn, Associate Professor of Communications Mary Shortridge and Adjunct Instructor Mary Baughman are also in the cast.
Jonathan Joy and Mary Shortridge, along with Sarah Diamond Burroway, make up the directing team.
Joy is a prolific writer with more than 25 plays to his credit and his work has been featured in the New York Times, Southern Theatre and Insight for Playwrights magazine.
Mary Hendricks Shortridge has taught communications at ACTC since 2003. Her short stories have appeared in three anthologies published by Turquoise Morning Press in Louisville.
Sarah Diamond Burroway is ACTC Director of Grants and Contracts. She is co-founder and director of Actors for Children Theatre (ACT) which is based in Flatwoods, KY.
General admission tickets are $5.00, and tickets may be reserved through the ACTC Bookstore, 606.326.2014. Tickets at the door will be available for cash or check (with photo ID) payment only. On Sunday, April 26, admission will be free to those who bring a can of food for Safe Harbor, a womans shelter and service agency.
Art works by ACTC students will be exhibited during the three days of the New Play Festival.
