KY Medication Aide Course Begins April 6

A Kentucky Medication Aide course will begin April 6 at ACTC. The course will prepare nurse aides to take the Kentucky Medication Aide Examination.

Medication aides administer prescribed medicines to patients and prevent adverse patient reactions to the medicines. The average salary for a Kentucky Medication Aide, also known as CMA, is $27,282 annually, with many employers offering excellent benefit packages.

The course combines classroom and laboratory activities with clinical practice in long term care agencies. Students learn concepts of medication administration, basic pharmacology, drug therapy for common disease processes, age related variations to medication administration and the role of the Medication Aide

Registration is open to nurse aides who are currently on the State Registry, who have been employed at least six months in long term care or non-licensed direct care facilities, and who meet admissions test score requirements.

The course will be held Wednesdays and Thursdays, April 6 to June 9, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the College Drive Campus. The fee is $650 plus $20 liability insurance fee and a book.
