John W. Clark Building Will Serve Area Workforce

The Workforce Solutions building at Ashland Community and Technical College has been formally named the John W. Clark Training Center.

John W. Clark is a prominent businessman, philanthropist and community supporter in the Ashland area. For several years he has help fund ACTC scholarships and has provided discretionary funds for many college activities, including the Young Women Lead Conference and the ACTC Foundation Golf Scramble.

He was appointed to the ACTC Board of Directors in 2012. He has served with Foundation Board members on the Selection and Enlistment Committee and the Leadership Awareness Committee for Ashlands BuildSmart Campaign. He recently made the first lead gift to the colleges BuildSmart Campaign and has committed a total of $233,157 to Ashlands Workforce Solutions building.

An Ashland area native, Clark founded and owns John W. Clark Oil Co., a company that has 66 store in four states.

Mr. Clark has been very supportive of college initiatives to enhance college programs and support student learning, said Dr. Kay Adkins, ACTC President and CEO. His gift to our BuildSmart Campaign to renovate the original College Drive building and his commitment to the Workforce Solutions building are literally helping us build for the future.

ACTCs Workforce Solutions unit moved into the building at the Roberts Drive West Campus last spring. Workforce Solutions provides workforce training, skill assessments, short-term career programs, community education classes and business start-up support through The Entrepreneur Center and the Ashland Area Innovation Office.

The building naming, the third in ACTCs history, was approved by the KCTCS Board of Regents at their September 18, 2015 meeting. The naming request was made by President Adkins and endorsed by the ACTC Board of Directors and the Community amp; Technical College Foundation of Ashland Inc. Previously named buildings are the Goodpaster Building on the College Drive Campus and the Guy amp; Lisa Spriggs Child Development Center near the College Drive Campus.
