January Classes for the Community
A new year at ACTC brings a variety of choices for improving your life and expanding your horizons. In addition to credit classes, there are Community Education classes and Workforce Development training sessions that offer affordable choices for everyone from six to sixty plus.

First Aid/CPR/AED
Heartsaver First Aid /CPR/AED is a course for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs training in first aid, CPR and AED (automated external defibrillators) to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.
The course covers critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrive. Instructor Russ Griffith will teach participants how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies as well as administer CPR and AED.
This American Heart Association course will be held Friday, Jan. 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The fee is $35 plus $5, payable to the instructor, for the certification card. This card will be mailed to students after completion of the class. Pre-registration is required through ACTC Community Education, 606-326-2072 or email: as_ce@kctcs.edu.
ACT Preparation
High school students can get ready for the February 9 ACT college entrance test with this class held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 15 to Feb. 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The 16-hour class is designed to help overcome test anxiety and improve test-taking skills. Participants will go over ACT type questions, learn test-taking tips, review English grammar and punctuation and practice working arithmetic and geometry problems.
The fee is $99, and students will need to purchase Barons Preparation for the ACT. The class will be held at the ACTC Roberts Drive Campus, and enrollment is through ACTC Community Education.
Fitness Classes
Three classes in January will help you shape up for the New Year. Each class is held on Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 15 to Feb. 21, at the Roberts Drive Campus, and each class is $15.
A Zumba class from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. will fuse hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that burns calories.
A Pilates class from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. is designed to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in relaxing yet challenging sessions. Participants will need to bring mats.
A Circuit Blast class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. is an interval training workout that mixes high/low impact and strength training moves to burn fat and sculpt the body.
Enrollment is through ACTC Community Education.
