Janet Bates Wins Art Award

ACTC employee Janet Mulkey Bates won a first place award in the Ashlands Art in the Park Show in September. She won first place in the Professional Portrait category for her watercolor entitled Jackie, a portrait of ACTC employee Jackie Binion.

A Greenup County resident, she has been an artist for much of her life. She started out working in oil, pencil and pen and ink but has been working primarily in watercolor for about twenty years. She has entered several arts shows over the years, including Art in the Park, where she previously won an award for pencil drawing, and the spring art show at Greenbo Lake State Park.

This win was extra special because I usually paint barns, homesteads, covered bridges and still lives, she said. It was an awesome experience to win for a portrait in watercolor. Bates has been a custodial worker at the college for over three years and currently works at the Technology Drive Campus.
