Get Your GED in 2013

Adults planning to take the GED test are encouraged to complete the test this year before the new test goes into effect in January.Start with the Adult Learning Center at ACTCs College Drive Campus, and the staff will help you step by step

The GED test is being revamped for 2014, and it will be based on more rigorous academic standards and will cost more than the current test. Those who have not completed all five parts of the tests by mid-December will have to start over in 2014.

Two testing sessions are required to complete the five test portions. December test dates are December 4 and 18 for the Science and Reading portion and December 11 for the Math and Essay portion.

The process of getting ready to take the GED is not complicated. The first step is an assessment to see if students are ready for the GED test, said Penny Qualls, Adult Education Director. If they are ready, they can complete the Official GED Practice Test that is required in order to take the GED. If they pass the Practice Test, they will receive an application to take the official GED test.

If students are not ready for the GED, we will work with them to get them ready, Qualls added. We can start them in classes as soon as we do the assessments. Those who want to get ready for the December tests need to start classes right away.

All classes and services at the Learning Center are free through support from Kentucky Adult Education. For more information or an appointment, call the 606-326-2457 or 606-326-2437.

ACTC is an official GED testing center, and appointments are required to take the test. After completing the practice test, test-takers can contact Cara Huff, 606-326-2193 or email: cara.huff@kctcs.edu. Test takers will need a photo id, testing application, proof of registration and payment of $60 for the entire battery or $30 per retest.
