GED Ready Blitz Offers Savings

ACTCs Adult Learning Center is offering free GED Ready testing and $10 fees for each GED test taken through the month of November.

This is an opportunity for people to prepare for a better future with their GED, said Penny Qualls, Boyd County Adult Education Director. People who have their high school diploma or GED earn at least $9,300 more per year than those who dont.

GED Ready testing shows the ability to pass the official GED test in four subject areas: reasoning through language arts, science, social studies, and math.

GED Ready tests are offered at the ACTC College Drive Campus on Mondays through Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Main Building and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Goodpaster Building.

Ready Tests are also offered at the Boyd County Library Catlettsburg Branch, 2704 Louisa Street, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and the Hillcrest-Bruce Mission, 1819 Eloise Street in Ashland, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

If the participant passes any of the GED Ready (practice) tests, we can schedule the Official GED test right away, Qualls said. The official GED has four testing subjects, and normally each subject would cost $30.00. However for November, each test will cost the participant only $10.

Kentucky Adult Education is paying $10 per test and the Adult Learning Center, through donations, is paying $10 per test, leaving $10 per test for the participant. In some cases, we may have 100% coverage of the test, depending on a participants qualifications, Qualls said. We never know how long the funding/donations will last, so it is important to take advantage of this opportunity now.

Test takers can call 606-326-2457 for an appointment or just come in and start the testing. Test takers will need to bring a state ID or drivers license for identification purposes.
