Free Drop-out Prevention Conference for Parents, Teachers

How can we reduce Kentuckys high school dropout rate? A free Graduate Kentucky Mini-Conference October 28 at ACTC's Technology Drive Campus will help educators and parents answer that question.

The Youth amp; Adult Partnerships Mini-Conference will help participants better understand youth behaviors and psychosocial issues and develop youth/adult partnerships that support a college-going culture.

The conference on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. is designed for parents, elementary through university educators, counselors, students, community leaders and professionals who support college access.

Participants will attend sessions on engaging youth, career counseling, youth suicide prevention, youth psychosocial issues and parenting in the 21st century. The conference also includes dinner and a presentation by Sylvia Lovely, President of Sylvia Lovely amp; Associates. She is an author, commentator and speaker on community issues, civic engagement and the power of ordinary people to make a difference.

The conference is free, but space is limited on a first come basis and pre-registration is required. To register, email Karen E. Napier, Interim Executive Director of KentuckyCAN (Kentucky College Access Network) at: knapier@kentuckycan.org.

Conference sponsors are ACTC, the Governors Office, Graduate KY Initiative, KCAN, LEEP, GEAR UP Kentucky, KSCA, FRYSC and local business and community leaders.
