Dr. Roger Cleveland will be the presenter at a Diversity Forum and Program Friday, Feb. 10, at the Ashland Community and Technical College Technology Drive Campus.

Dr. Cleveland is nationally known for his work in diversity, instructional equity, cultural competency, closing achievement gaps, learning styles, transforming school culture and school improvement planning.

He is associate professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU).  He has conducted staff development and workshops for schools and school districts, state educational agencies and universities, and social service agencies.

At EKU, He has been actively involved with EKU's Call Me MISTER Program, which encourages African American males to become role models in the field of education. He was inducted into the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame in 2015

Dr. Cleveland's presentation will be followed by a diversity and inclusion forum that encourages area residents to share their experiences, insight and expertise on equity and inclusion issues.

Through dialogue, participants are encouraged to become more aware of their own cultural perceptions and how those perceptions influence policies, practices and personnel.

"The goal is to achieve a community that is culturally competent and inclusive in providing a better environment for all stakeholders," said Al Baker, ACTC Director of Cultural Diversity and event coordinator.

The diversity forum and presentation is a community Black History Month program supported by ACTC, the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center and area residents. For more information, email: alvin.baker@kctcs.edu or call 606-326-2422.
