Children's Theatre Presents "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"
The ACTC Childrens Theatre production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be presented Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m. in the J. B. Sowards Theatre at the College Drive Campus.
The Old Testament story of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to life in this musical parable. Josephs sale into slavery by his jealous brothers, his rise to power in Egypt and his eventual reunion with his brothers is told entirely through the music by Andrew Lloyd Weber and lyrics by Tim Rice.
The engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, has made this production a favorite with audiences of all ages.
Leading the cast are Haley Clay, a twelfth grader at Russell High School, as the Narrator, and Blaine Roberts, a twelfth grader at Raceland/Worthington High, as Joseph. Pharaoh and Jacob are both portrayed by Andrew Hall, an eleventh grader from Boyd County High School.
Mrs. Potiphar is portrayed by Morgan Casto, a junior at Russell High School, and Potiphar is portrayed by Josiah Fairchild, a tenth grader at Paul Blazer High School.
The rest of the 31 member cast is comprised of third through twelfth grade students from Boyd, Greenup and Lawrence counties in Kentucky and Lawrence County in Ohio.
Karen Curnutte, a Boyd County School System employee, is the director. Eric Akers, organist for South Ashland United Methodist Church, is the orchestra director. Max Jackson, ACTC Emeritus Professor of Music, is the accompanist.
ACTC Theatre veterans Paula Krepsik and Lynette Muncy are the costume designer and choreographer respectively. Edward Figgins, ACTC Associate Professor/Director of Theatre, is the scenery and lighting director.
This year is the 20th Anniversary of Childrens Theatre at ACTC, an endeavor started to provide youth with lessons in acting and stagecraft as well as on stage experience.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more. ACTC/MSU-Ashland student tickets are $2.
