Apply Now for Spring 2010 Practical Nursing Class
October 1, 2010 is the deadline to apply for the Practical Nursing Diploma Program class that starts in Spring Semester 2011.
The three-semester program is accredited by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn a diploma and are eligible to take the national licensure exam to become LPNs.
Practical Nursing has a lot to offer as a career field, said Barbara McKinney, ACTC Assistant Professor and Practical Nursing Program Coordinator. There are jobs out there for all of our students who complete the program and pass the national exam, she said.
Job opportunities are found in hospitals, long term care facilities, doctors offices, clinics, industry, and school nurse programs. The variety of facilities gives graduates the flexibility of choosing a work setting that accommodates their family responsibilities and schedules.
The LPN is an entry-level bedside nurse, competent in caring for acutely and chronically ill patients. Under the direction of a licensed physician, dentist, or professional nurse, LPNs give hands-on nursing care to people with physical and/or mental health care needs.
The program combines classroom instruction in theory and basic nursing skills with hands-on experience in a variety of health care settings. Students learn to provide direct patient care, administer medications and treatments, give counsel and assist with prevention and restorative health care.
Practical Nursing is a selective admission program, and prospective students need to complete an application which is on ACTCs website under Academics, Programs of Study, Practical Nursing. Applicants who are not current ACTC students also need to complete the ACTC application process, and ACTC applications are also on the web. Application to the program does not guarantee admission.
