Apply for Associate Degree Nursing by Feb. 1

February 1 is the application deadline for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) class that begins in Fall Semester, 2014 at Ashland Community and Technical College.

This program prepares graduates to care for patients as registered nurses in beginning staff-level positions. Graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become registered nurses.

The program is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta GA 30326, telephone 404-975-5000.

Catlettsburg resident Lindsay Moore started in the program after his telecommunications management job was eliminated in 2010. My mom was a nurse and several cousins are nurses, and that was my goal when I started college after graduating from Boyd County High School in 1989. I ended up in a different field, but this is my chance to get back on the original track.

I cant say enough about the dedicated faculty and staff who will help you whenever you need it, Moore said. The small classes immerse you in the courses where you are an individual, not just a number. You also get support from your fellow students, said Moore, who is the President of the 2014 Nursing Class. To me its more than the Nursing Class of 2014, its the Nursing family of 2014.

After graduating in May, he would like to work in a hospital where he can eventually focus on neonatal and pediatric intensive care.

Associate Degree Nursing is a selective admissions program. Applicants must have completed BIO137, PSY110, CIT 105 (or equivalent digital literacy requirement) and MAT150 or MAT110 prior to the start of the nursing program.

Students admitted to the program must complete CPR requirements and a nursing assistant course or equivalent before enrolling in the first nursing course. General education courses may be taken prior to admission.
