Adult Ed Classes Help with Job, College, GED Skills

People who want to improve their basic academic skills for the GED, college or a better job can start classes this month at the Adult Education Center.

On September 19, the Center at ACTCs Roberts Drive Campus will begin a series of five week classes on basic reading, math and language enrichment / writing skills.

Classes include five different levels of math, four levels of reading comprehension, two levels of language enrichment/writing and a study tips class. Lab sessions and online/distance learning study are also offered.

Classes meet on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday for an hour and a half each day. Evening classes are available on Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The ACT National Career Readiness Certificate, signed by the governor, can also be earned at the Center. The free services are funded by Kentucky Adult Education, Council on Post Secondary Education through ACTC.

Before starting classes, labs or online programs, students need to complete an assessment of their skills and goals. To make an appointment for an assessment, call 606-326-2457 or 606-326-2437.

English as a Second Language (ESL) is also offered. Students can learn English as it relates to daily living in the United States; improve their reading, writing or speaking skills; or prepare for the USCIS Citizenship test. ESL classes meet afternoons at the Paramount Arts Center and two evenings a week at the Center.
