Adult Ed Classes Help with COMPASS Test

The COMPASS Placement Test is used at Ashland Community and Technical College to determine readiness for college-level courses and to determine a students class placement.

A series of Fast Track classes to help new students prepare for the COMPASS test are offered this summer by ACTCs Adult Education Program. Classes will review the math and reading/writing skills covered by the COMPASS. Improved COMPASS scores can save students time and money by reducing the number of developmental courses they are required to take.

The classes will also help people prepare for the GED or improve their basic college skills.

Three two-week sessions are scheduled to help people move quickly through the series of classes they may need in math, reading, writing and grammar. The sessions from July 5 to 15, July 19 to July 29, and August 3 to 12 are timed to end before ACTC classes start on August 16.

Classes are held at the Adult Learning Center at the Roberts Drive Campus Monday through Thursday in the daytime and on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evening. There are also online programs that can be used anytime via the Internet.

The Adult Learning Center is a One-Stop partner in Boyd County, and the free classes are funded by Kentucky Adult Education through ACTC.

To sign up for classes, call the Center at 606-326-2437. The staff will schedule you for an appointment in which they can help decide what classes you need to meet your goals. More information on Learning Center services is on the web at:
