ACTC Theatre's Production of "A Little Night Music"

ACTC Theatre will present the musical A Little Night Music Fridays and Saturdays, April 17, 18 and April 24, 25 at 8:00PM and Sundays, April 19, 26 at 2:30 in the J. B. Sowards Theatre.

One of Broadways most neglected masterpieces, the romantic and achingly beautiful A Little Night Music deals with the universal subject of love, in all its wondrous, humorous and ironic permutations. The book for the musical is by Hugh Wheeler with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical score is composed entirely in 3/4 time, or in variations thereof. A song from the musical, Send in the Clowns" has become a popular music standard and has been recorded by dozens of superstars, including Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Judy Collins, whose recording garnered the composer Stephen Sondheim the 1975 Grammy for Song of the Year. The musical is the Tony award winner for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score. The book by Hugh Wheeler was inspired by the Ingmar Bergmann film "Smiles of a Summer Night." A Little Night Music premiered on Broadway in 1973 and was revived in London both in 1989 and 1995.

Set in Sweden at the turn of the century, the musical follows the lives of several couples from all walks of life and their views on life and love are explored with compassion and humor. And in the end, under the summer night, things are set to right.
