ACTC Theatre Will Hold "Kiss Me Kate" Auditions

Auditions for the ACTC Theatre production of Kiss Me Kate will be held August 19 and 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the J.B. Sowards Theatre on the College Drive Campus.

Adults and high school and college students are invited to audition. The cast includes 30 to 35 performers, with equal roles for men and women. There are no non-singing roles but performers can have average singing voices.

Those auditioning are expected to sing, dance, and read as part of the audition, and no advance preparation is required. Selections of music from the musical will be taught before auditions begin. For students under 18, a parent or guardian must attend the beginning of the audition.

Kiss Me Kate opens the 2013-14 Theatre Season. The musical combines Shakespeares Taming of the Shrew with Cole Porters music and lyrics. The last Broadway revival in 1999 received Tony Awards for Best Actor, Best Costumes, Best Director, and Best Orchestrations.

Cast members should be able to attend 7:00 p.m. rehearsals and Saturday work sessions. Performances are October 17 and 20 and October 24 to 27.
