ACTC Theatre Presents "Romeo and Juliet"

ACTC Theatre will present Romeo and Juliet Friday and Saturday, March 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays, March 23 and 30, at 2:30 p.m.

One of William Shakespeares most enduring tragedies, Romeo amp; Juliet is about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. Presented in partnership with the Boyd County School System, the ACTC production is set in the 1920's, with music and styles representing that period.

ACTC is pleased to partner with Boyd County Schools in this production, said Dr. Carol Greene, Chair of ACTCs Humanities Division. Drama is a natural outgrowth of the study of Romeo and Juliet in high school literature classes.

Drama encourages excellence in reading, writing, communications, and critical thinking that students can use in advanced classes, the work place and the community, Greene said. Students who participate learn presentation skills and build self-confidence that can be used in any career.

Juliet is portrayed by Morgan Casto, an ACTC student and Russell High School senior from Wurtland, and Romeo is portrayed by Troy P. Combs III, an ACTC student from Grayson.

Roger Hagley, ACTC Multi-media Producer, is Lord Capulet and Karen Curnette, a Boyd County School System employee, is Capulets wife. She is also the assistant director. Chance Jessie, an ACTC alumnus and substitute teacher with the Carter County School System, is Montague, and Natya L. Kaino-Anderson, an ACTC student from Ashland, is Montagues wife.

Cast members from Boyd County High School are Sydney Earl, Andrew Hall, Samantha Paige Harper, Zoie Hickman, Sierra Logsdon, Tristan Clay Patterson, Chris Rice, Gabriello Thompson, and Katherine Yoakem.

Others in the cast include Austin Cross, an ACTC student from Ashland; Kevin Ellis, an ACTC student from Russell; and Russell High School students Zac Damron, Katie Fried, Baron Hankins and Maddison Moore.

Edward Figgins, ACTC Associate Professor of Theatre/Communications and Director of Theatre is the directorand scenic/lighting designer.Ashland resident Paula Krepsik is the Costume Designer. Lauren Curnutte, a Raceland resident and recent Deember State University graduate, is the Production Stage manager.

Performances are in the J. B. Sowards Theatre at ACTCs College Drive Campus in Ashland. School matinees will be held Fridays, March 21 and 28, at 11 a.m.

Tickets are $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more, and $2.00 for ACTC and MSU-Ashland students.
