ACTC Theatre Holds Auditions for "Chicago"

ACTC Theatre will hold auditions for CHICAGO, The Musical on August 25 and 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the J. B. Sowards Theatre at the College Drive Campus.

The production has roles for 25 to 30 men and women. Those auditioning will sing and dance, with no advance preparation required. Singing selections and short dance routines will be taught at the auditions. There are no non-singing roles in the show.

Auditions are open to adults and high school and college students. Cast members should be able to attend 7:00 p.m. rehearsals and Saturday work sessions. Performances are Thursday to Sunday, Oct. 13 to 15 and Oct. 20 to 22.

CHICAGO, The Musical is the first production of the 2011-12 ACTC Theatre Season. The production won six Tony Awards on Broadway and the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Set in the roaring twenties, Chicago is the story of two death row murderesses, Roxie and Velma, who vie for headlines and the spotlight in their search for their "American Dream" of fame, fortune and acquittal.

The book was written by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The musical is based on the play of the same name by Maurine Dallas Watkins.

Edward Figgins, ACTC Professor and Director of Theatre, will be the director and scenic/lighting designer. The production also includes Kathy Saltsman as vocal director, Eric Akers as orchestra director, Yvonne DeKay Sinnot as choreographer, Max Jackson as accompanist, Paula Krepsik as costume designer and Roger Hagley as sound designer.
