ACTC Theatre Cast Wins Apollo Night Award

A Night at the Apollo February 15 at the ACTC Theatre showcased the talents of area residents.

Based on amateur nights at Harlems famous Apollo Theatre, the talent show gave performers had the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and complete for prizes. Prizes awarded are$200, $100 and $50 for adults and $75, $50 and $25 for youth up to age 12.

Youth winners were: First- Julianna Parlin, a vocalist from Portsmouth; Second - Seth Alister, a dancer from South Shore; and Third - Aaron Stephens, a hand drummer and vocal performer from Greenup

Adult prizes were: First - ACTC Childrens Theater Singers from Joseph amp; the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Second - Susan Taylor, a vocalist from Ironton; and Third - Heather Miller, a vocalist from Ashland.

A Night at the Apollo is one of the community Black History Month programs supported by ACTC and area residents and organizations, with prizes provided by Dr. Michael D. Canty.

Mistress of Ceremonies Bernice Henry, at left, presented them with the First Place Award in the Adult Division. Most of the performers were over age 12, so the group qualified for the adult competition.
