ACTC Theatre Announces 2011-2012 Season

The 2011-12 Theatre Season at Ashland Community and Technical College will offer musical productions that bring some of the best of the worlds theatre to the college stage.

This season, with the theme Everything Old Is New Again, brings together some of the most magical moments in musical theatre said Edward Figgins, ACTC Director of Theatre and Associate Professor. the three musicals are Chicago the Musical, A Christmas Carol and the Childrens Theatre production of Cinderella.

The fall production of Chicago, The Musical brings back the toe tapping sounds of the 1920s jazz. The Tony and Academy Award-winning musical is based on the play of the same name by Maurine Dallas Watkins, with the book written by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Performances are Thursday to Saturday, Oct. 13 to 15 and Oct. 20 to 22, at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays, Oct. 16 and 23, at 2:30 p.m.

Adapted by Isreal Horowitz, the musical mix of favorite carols and seasonal music provides a backdrop for such favorite characters such as Scrooge, the Cratchets and Tiny Tim. Public performances are December 1 to 4, and school matinees are November 30 to December 2.

The childrens theatre production of Cinderella in the spring renews the magic of the songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein. In this Getting to Know (G2K) adaptation for youthful performers and audiences, all the familiar songs and familiar characters are present. Public performances are February 17 to 19, and school matinees are February 15 to 17. Childrens Theatre is an educational experience for third through ninth grade students.
