ACTC Students Named to All-Academic Team

Two ACTC students were among 32 KCTCS students named to the 2013 All-Academic Team at the KCTCS Student Academic Achievement luncheon held May 21.

Michelle Gollihue and Gregory McFarland were chosen for the All-Academic Team based on a rigorous selection process that focused on academic performance and campus involvement. Team members received a $500 gift from their college, as well as scholarship opportunities to continue their education at 29 Kentucky public and private universities.

Michelle A. Gollihue, a Grayson resident, is majoring in Medical Information Technology. She worked part-time last semester at ACTC as a tutor and was elected the 2013-14 Student Government President. A GED recipient, she is attending ACTC to further her education and open up more employment opportunities.

She will graduate from ACTC in Spring, 2014, and is considering transfer to MSU to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Business.

Gregory T. McFarlin is an Ashland resident and 1990 graduate of Boyd County High School. He graduated from ACTC this May with an Associate of Science Degree and plans to transfer to Eastern Kentucky University for a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety.

McFarlins goal of completing general education requirements to transfer to a four-year institution at ACTC has required some juggling with his military service.

I started at ACTC in spring 2010 right after leaving active duty with the US Army in November 2009, he said. I completed general education requirements to enter the RN program and started the RN program in fall 2011. However I had to drop out that fall due to military orders that activated me for deployment to Afghanistan. The orders were cancelled two months later and I didn't deploy, so I decided to take a different path. The degree from EKU is offered online, so I will be able to stay in Ashland.
