ACTC Student Wins Practical Nursing Scholarship

Ashland Community and Technical College student Robin G. McBrayer has been awarded a $500 scholarship by the Kentucky Council for Practical Nursing (KCPN).

The KCPN presents the Rebecca Forrest Scholarship is annually to an outstanding student enrolled in the second or third semester of an accredited practical nursing program in Kentucky. Scholarship criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, financial need and an essay on why the student chose nursing as a career.

McBrayer is a Worthington resident and graduate of Russell High School. She attended ACTC in 2005 but left to join the workforce. She returned to ACTC last fall to work on a career in practical nursing. While attending college fulltime, she was also working fulltime for the Talon Group, a contractor with Marathon LLC.

Robin has been an excellent student, and she has a tremendous work ethic, said Elizabeth McGinnis, ACTCs Practical Nursing Program Coordinator and the new KCPN President. Were proud of her.

Its awesome to receive this scholarship, McBrayer said. As a single mom trying to work, go to school and take care of family, everything helps.

The Rebecca Forrest Scholarship is a privately-funded scholarship administered by the KCPN. It is named for Rebecca Forrest, who was the Bowling Green Community and Technical College Glasgow Campus Director and Practical Nursing Coordinator for many years.
