ACTC Signs Agreement to Help Russell High School Students
Ashland Community and Technical College and the Russell Independent School District (RISD) have signed an agreement to help keep Russell High School students on track for college.
The collaboration targets students in the RISD Excellence for the 21stCentury (E-21) Program who are in danger of not graduating from high school. Activities will connect the E-21 students to ACTC prior to graduation, with the goal of encouraging them to continue their education through high school and into college.
"We are pleased to participate in this partnership to help students be successful," said Dr. Kay Adkins, ACTC President and CEO. "Collaborations with our area high schools make higher education more accessible to students and help our young people prepare for their next steps in life.
The E-21Program was developed by Russell to give targeted students the opportunity to graduate from high school with their original cohort, to observe and consider any field which may interest them as a career and to accrue experiences which could empower them to pursue their dreams.
The ACTC-RISD collaboration will give E-21 students opportunities to observe and consider a variety of career fields, enjoy college experiences and participate in mentoring and motivational activities to help them continue on to college. Students will also have access to ACTC academic and pre-college counseling, college planning, placement testing and assistance with college and financial aid applications to help them with their next steps after high school.
Russell Independent School District Superintendent M. Sean Horne and Dr. Akins signed the collaborative agreement for E-21 Program students on December 21 at the Russell Technology Center.
