ACTC Presents Veterans Day Program

To commemorate Veterans Day on November 11, ACTC Professor Dan Bailey will present 1945: The End of World War II. The free program will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the LearningResource CenterConference Room atthe College Drive Campus.

World War II was the most significant event of the 20th Century, Bailey said. Over 60 million lives were lost during the period of 1939-1945, as a result of the war. More than 16 million men and women answered the call to duty with 400,000 losing their lives.

Dan Baileys father was a marine during World War II. He participated in the Central Pacific campaigns of Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa and in the occupation of Nagasaki following the end of the War.

Bailey researched his fathers memories of the War, and in 2013 he retraced his fathers footsteps through the Pacific in an 18-day trip covering over 20,000 miles. Baileys interest in the military history derives not only from his fathers experiences but from his own experience as a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army Reserve.

This presentation will cover events from the beginning of the War in 1939 until the end of World War II on September 2, 1945.
