ACTC Online Courses Bring College to Students

Ashland Community and Technical College offers dozens of online classes for adults who cannot attend classes on campus due to scheduling conflicts, childcare, work or other commitments. For motivated students, online courses make college accessible and flexible.

Even with busy schedules, many people can find time for an online class that would upgrade their skills or help them prepare for promotion while earning credits that can count toward a degree at ACTC.

Some of the classes listed below are also offered on campus. A complete fall class schedule is on the web at ashland.kctcs.edu under academics.

Business courses include Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Statistics, Personal and Organizational Leadership, Real Estate Principles Iand Real Estate Law.

Criminal Justice courses for those working in the field or considering a career in law enforcement or security include Intro to Corrections, Principles of Asset Protection, Intro to Criminalistics, Community Corrections Probation amp; Parole, Delinquency and the Juvenile Justice System, Physical Security Techniques amp; Systems, Intro to Law Enforcement, Criminal Law, Intro to Computer Forensics, Criminal Courtroom Procedures, and Terrorism amp; Political Violence.

Intro to Computers could be useful to anyone in any field, and many Information Technology classes would help people who work with computers. These classes include Hardware and Software, Computational Thinking, Web Page Development, Networking Concepts, Home and Small Office Networks, Small-Medium Business or ISP, Security Fundamentals, Server Infrastructure Administration and UNIX/Linux Administration.

Classes for teachers or education majors include Teaching Exceptional Learners, Intro to American Education, Elementary School Literature and Math for Elementary and Middle School Teachers.

Those considering a career or additional credentials in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education can choose a course in Early Childhood Foundations, Curriculum,Child Guidance, Literacy and Language, Sciences and Math, Administration, School Age Child Careor Health, Safety and Nutrition.

Classes in social work are Introductions to Additions and The Family, and fire science courses are Fire Officer II and Fire Officer III.

Those planning to work toward any college degree can take a general education class in writing, communications, literature, history, math, sociology, comparative religion, American government, world politics and introductory biology or chemistry.

Additional online courses are available through the Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems website at: kctcs.edu/Students/LearnByTerm. These courses are offered by all the 16 KCTCS colleges, and the fall schedule includes Payroll Accounting, Architectural Design, Human Relations Management, 3D Animation, French, Chinese, Spanish and other courses not offered at ACTC.

New students must be enrolled at ACTC before registering for classes, and August 4 is the application deadline.The application form and class schedules are online at ashland.kctcs.edu.
