ACTC Offers Short-Term Classes for Adults

Ashland Community and Technical College offers a variety of learning opportunities for area residents. Short-term classes in April and May can help adults build computer and business skills, plan for retirement and learn CPR, and fulfill continuing education requirements.

Learn Windows 8

Properly using the Windows environment that comes with todays laptops, desktops and Microsoft tablets can improve your productivity and expand your options. In this Windows 8 class, participants will lean to navigate the new interface, use and manipulate tiles, work with the windows store, use keyboard shortcuts, use neat tweaks.

The class will be held Tuesday, April 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the College Drive Campus. Instructor Jim Fox is the Information Technology Coordinator at ACTC, and the fee is $10.

Retirement Planning

This workshop blends financial education with life planning to help participants build wealth, align their money with their values, and achieve their retirement lifestyle goals.

Participants will learn strategies to manage investment risks, 11 ways to save money on this years taxes, important questions to ask before buying insurance coverage, how to invest in and take money out of a company retirement plan and how to determine the savings needed to retire today or in the future.

The class is offered twice in May at the College Drive Campus: Tuesdays, May 6 and 13, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays, May 10 and 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The $55 fee includes a textbook, and couples may attend together for a single fee.

Customer Service

The Customer Service session is designed to help people understand the purpose and need for great customer service in any field, not just traditional service-based businesses. Knowing how each individuals level of engagement contributes to customer service delivery.

This class is approved for three hours of KY approved continuing education for HVAC, electrical and plumbing professionals. The class will be held Tuesday, May 13 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus, and the fee is $30.

Business Practices

Everyone from front line employees to the head of the company can learn to run a professional service based business in this three hour class.

Topics include business structure practices and licensing, estimating and bidding, contracts and acceptance, project management and planning, financing and record keeping, insurance and bonding, and dispute resolution.

This class is approved for three hours of KY required continuing education for HVAC, electrical and plumbing professionals. The class will be held Thursday, May 14, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus, and the fee is $30.

CPR Class

Learn American Heart Associate CPR in a class held Thursday, May 15, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus. This class is approved for two hours of KY required continuing education for heating, electrical and plumbing professionals. The fee is $30.
