ACTC Offers Phlebotomy SRNA Training

Phlebotomy Class

A Phlebotomy class will prepare students to collect blood from patients or donors in hospitals, blood banks and clinics for analysis or other purposes.

Job opportunities are available in hospitals, clinical and medical offices, and phlebotomy jobs are expected to increase 27% nationwide from 2010 to 220 by the US Department of Labor. The average annual salary for certified phlebotomists in Kentucky is currently $24,000.

Students learn to become integral members of the health-care team, with knowledge of standard procedures, standard precautions, record keeping, vital signs and therapeutic communication skills. Those who successfully complete the course are prepared to take the state exam.

The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 16 to Dec. 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Technology Drive Campus. This is a six-credit hour class, and the fee based on ACTC tuition rates is $936.

SRNA Training

An eighty-hour State Registered Nurse Aid (SRNA class trains health care assistants in basic skills necessary to assist nurses in a variety of health care settings.

The growth of SRNA jobs in the 10 county area of Northern Kentucky is projected to increase 22% from 2012 to 2022, according to the Kentucky Career Center. In Kentucky, the median wage for SRNAs is $14.12 per hour with an average yearly wage of $29,370.

Three classes start in August: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 16 to Oct. 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus; Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 15 to Oct. 9, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus; and Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug.15 to Oct. 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Technology Drive Campus. Two additional classes will begin in October.

The class fee, based on ACTC tuition rates, is $468, plus student fee, liability insurance and textbook. Those who complete the class earn three college credits and can then take the state licensing exam.
