ACTC Holds Auditions for "A Christmas Carol"

ACTC Theatre will hold auditions for A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley Monday, Oct. 27, at 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6:00 p.m. in the J. B. Sowards Theatre at the College Drive Campus.

Auditions are open to adults and grade school though college students. In addition to speaking roles, there are walk on (non-speaking) parts for men, women, and children who want to be towns people and sing in the chorus.

Those auditioning will sing or read from the script, and no advance preparation is required. Young children should be accompanied to auditions by an adult.Anyone under 18 must have a release signed by a parent. Releases will be available at the auditions and should be returned no later than the first rehearsal.

Anyone interested in working backstage to help with props, costumes, set construction, lights and sound is also invited to come to the auditions. People who like theatre but dont want to be on stage can still share in the theatre experience, said Dr. Carol Greene, ACTC Humanities Division Chair.

Much of the backstage work requires more attention to detail than heavy lifting, Greene said. Stage crew jobs can be an enjoyable activity and involve people in a community activity where they are part of a successful team.

The director will be Mary Baughman, an ACTC Adjunct Instructor and experienced theatre director. Max Jackson, ACTC Emeritus Professor of Music, will be the musical director.

Rehearsals will be held weekday evenings. Community performances are December 4 to 7, and noontime school matinees are December 3 to 5.

This will be ACTC Theatres 21^st production of Charles Dickens classic tale. The musical version of A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, adapted to the stage by Israel Horowitz, has become a holiday staple for many area theatre goers.
