ACTC Helps with Grayson Lake Spring Cleaning
Approximately 130 ACTC employees, students and their family members helped with the annual spring cleaning of Grayson Lake State Park on Saturday, April 4.
ACTC has participated in the cleanup for several years as a community service project spearheaded by ACTC Computer amp; Information Technology faculty members Shawn Brown and David Childress.
Although the grant funds that started the project ended some time ago, the project continues because of its benefit both to the participants and to the community. Students, faculty and staff get to work together outside the classroom on something that everyone can appreciate.
After a long winter, it was nice to be outside, and we collected enough trash to fill a large container Brown said. Well be back in the fall to show a new group of students the rewards of community service.
Some professors offered students in psychology, criminal justice and other classes extra credit and bonus points for helping with the collection. Some just came to help make their environment better, Brown said.
The bi-annual cleanup is organized by the US Army Corps of Engineers, with Aaron Harmon,
Brian Johnson and Ranger Casey McKinley participating on Saturday.
