ACTC Faculty and Staff Give KCTCS Conference Presentations

ACTCpresenters at the KTCS New Horizons Conference in May were Nikki Bryant, Rae Ann Caldwell, Joy Shytle, Frank Salisbury, and Ashley Skidmore.

The Conference is a professional development opportunity for faculty and staff at the 16 KCTCS colleges.

Ashley Skidmore, Assistant Professor of Developmental Studies, presented a session on Read Right. She gave an overview of the Read Right program that has been used as the primary mode of instruction in all transitional reading courses at ACTC since 2006.

Nikki Bryant, Associate Professor and Health Profession Pathways (H2P) Project Director, joined presenters from Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) in a session on Transforming Health Career Education. ACTC and JCTC are members of a Department of Labor funded consortium to enhance healthcare training programs for dislocated and low skilled workers.

Frank Salisbury, Director of Advancement, presented Papaw Power Front Porch Leadership. The session included leadership and character building inspirations that were shared with him over the years by his grandfather and other role models and friends.

Joy Shytle, Academic Coordinator for the Student Support Services Program, and Rae Ann Caldwell, Coordinator of Student Activities, presented a session on Developing Student Leaders. The session was designed for faculty and students who work with student tutors, peer mentors, student government members and club officers.
