Electrical tradesmen competition Aug. 31

Do you have the power to be the best electrician in the nation? Register for the regional IDEAL Championship and find out.

ACTC is a host site for the competition that is open to students, apprentices and professional electricians. The winner of the regional competition will be sent to Lake Buena Vista, Florida, all expenses paid, to compete in the IDEAL National Championship at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort for more than $500,000 in cash and prizes.

Professionals and students/apprentices can compete as individuals and as teams, with a limit of each person competing on one team only. If competing as a team, all team members must work for the same company or attend the same apprentice program or trade school. Each participant must be at least 18 years old.

“I think it is great when an industry leader such as the IDEAL goes the extra mile to help cultivate interest and to inspire men and women who are on the path to a career in the electrical industry,” said Michael Tackett, ACTC’s electrical technology instructor.

The professional and student/apprentice with the fastest times in each IDEAL completion territory will advance and receive a 13-piece IDEAL tool kit. The top five fastest teams from the professional and student/apprentice division across the nation will also advance and receive the tool kit.

The national championship weekend is Nov. 10-11 and a total of 68 individual professionals and 68 individual students/apprentices will compete in up to four different rounds with top scores advancing to the next round. Seven teams from each division will compete in one final round.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: Individual Professionals: $75,000 for first place, $25,000 for second, $10,000 for third; Individual students/apprentices: $30,000 (plus $5,000 to their trade school) for first, $20,000 for second, $10,000 for third; professional teams: $60,000 for first place; students/apprentices: $30,000 (plus $5,000 to their trade school) for first.
