ACTC is offering a workshop series to help human resource department directors, managers and supervisors navigate the waters of HR rules and regulations.
Each seminar presented by Leigh Gross Latherow will focus on the top ten mistakes made in different personnel management issues.Latherow is an employment law attorney and partner at VanAntwerp Attorneys, LLP Ashland, Kentucky. Participants will learn to avoid legal pitfalls that could lead to lawsuits and will be able to ask questions specific to their companies or organizations.
Each workshop will meet from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus.
The Top 10 Hiring and Firing Mistakes on Thursday, March 3, will include background checks, medical and drug testing, and defending unemployment and retaliation claims.
The Top 10 ADA Mistakes on May 26 will help participate navigate the Americans with Disabilities Act. Topics include drug addictions, accommodation requests, the interaction between the ADA and workers compensation, insufficient job descriptions and setting precedents
The Top 10 Wage and Hour Mistakes on September 15 includes improper worker classifications, sick leave payout at termination, break time obligations, hiring documentation, overtime calculation, and salary employee discipline.
The Top 10 Questions to Legal Counsel by HR Personnel on November 10 will cover grounds for disciplining or firing workers.
