Apply Now for Spring 2012 Practical Nursing
November 1 is the deadline to apply for the Practical Nursing class that starts at Ashland Community and Technical College in Spring 2012.
The three-semester Practical Nursing Program is accredited by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn a diploma and are eligible to take the national licensure exam to become LPNs.
Practical Nursing has a lot to offer to people who want a health career, said Elizabeth McGinnis, ACTC Assistant Professor and Practical Nursing Program Coordinator. There are jobs for students who complete the program and pass the NCLEX PN Licensure Exam, she said.
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) are among the top five occupations in Kentucky that require postsecondary vocation training or associate degree. Job opportunities are found in hospitals, long term care facilities, doctors offices, clinics, industry, and school nurse programs.
The LPN is an entry-level bedside nurse, competent in caring for acutely and chronically ill patients. Under the direction of a licensed physician, dentist, or professional nurse, LPNs give hands-on nursing care to people with physical and/or mental health care needs.
The program combines classroom instruction in theory and basic nursing skills with hands-on experience in a variety of health care settings. Students learn to provide direct patient care, administer medications and treatments, give counsel and assist with prevention and restorative health care.
Practical Nursing is a selective admission program, and prospective students need to complete an application. Applicants who are not current ACTC students also need to complete the ACTC application process.
Applications are available online at ashland.kctcs.edu and in the Admissions Office at the College Drive and Technology Drive Campuses. To request an application, call ACTC Admissions, 606-326-2000 or 800-928-4256. Application to the program does not guarantee admission .
